Center Console II

Now that I have stuff, I want to do something with it.  One easy thing is the center console arm rest.

So I stripped the arm rest down.  Ugh.  There's no way I would have put that back in the car...

It looks like carpet underlayment.

But that's easy to fix!  Off with the old stuff, on with a new piece of foam cut to shape.

A little glue holds the foam to the wooden backer board.  The foam fits nicely in the armrest cover.  I used 1/4" heavy duty staples to secure the armrest cover.

Result!  The pic is a little distorted, but it is straight and the edges are even (and dare I say, it is comfy).  And what a nice color!

I just need to reattach the bottom cover, which is distorted as well from years of being bent into a funny shape.  So I rolled the car onto it (!) and it's flattening back out.  Now, I can put that away until it's time to install it to the new console.

UPDATE: The "flatten it with the car" thing didn't work, so I'll have to make a new one out of some thin wood and make it look nice.
